In this text for junior and senior undergraduates, Sadun treats diagonalization as a central tool in solving complicated problems in these subjects by reducing coupled linear evolution problems to a sequence of simpler decoupled problems.
This is the Decoupling by: This textbook develops the essential tools of linear algebra, with the goal of imparting technique alongside contextual understanding. Applications go handinhand with theory, each reinforcing and explaining the other. This approach encourages students to develop not only the technical proficiency needed to go on.
This is one of the best math books I have ever read. I had to learn linear algebra for my graduate research and this book was invaluable. I just wish they wrote a differential equations book as well.
The best part of this book are the excellent conceptual explainations, but the proofs are well motivated and clear as well, and I usually hate by: Through the whole book the author introduces new concepts and methods by stating their meanings to us.
The materials are well arranged. I especially like the way the author emphasize important theorems and I bought this book because Professor D recommended it as a good review book for linear algebra/5. "Jim Demmel's book on applied numerical linear algebra is a wonderful text blending together the mathematical basis, good numerical software, and practical knowledge for solving real problems.
It is destined to be a classic."Cited by: Authors: Shores, Thomas S. Usually dispatched within 3 to 5 business days. Usually dispatched within 3 to 5 business days.
In its second edition, this textbook offers a fresh approach to matrix and linear algebra. Its blend of theory, computational exercises. Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra – Vectors, Matrices, and Least Squares Stephen Boyd and Lieven Vandenberghe Cambridge University Press. This book is used as the textbook for the course EE (Stanford) and EEA (UCLA), where you will find additional related material.
The book covers Applied Linear Algebra book mathematics than a typical text on applied linear algebra. We use only one theoretical concept from linear algebra, linear independence, and only one computational tool, the QR factorization; our approach to most applica tions relies on only.

This seems to be the standard choice for honors undergraduate courses in the US these days. It is more challenging than the usual computational type introductions to linear algebra.
If you want something more applied and less theoretical than the above three books, this is the best linear algebra textbook for you. Pros: Great for selfstudy. If I were ever to teach the course again, I would choose Messer’s Linear Algebra solely because chapter one starts with vector spaces and linear transformations.
Every other LA book I know of pushes this abstract part of LA way back behind a bunch of mindnumbing calculation techniques. "Numerical Linear Algebra" by Trefethen and Bau is IMO the single best book to start learning from. It is lucidly written, concise and relatively inexpensive.
Perhaps its main drawback is an unconventional presentation starting from singular value decomposition (SVD) and presenting the other standard transformations as derivatives of SVD.

Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra: Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra – Vectors, Matrices, and Least Squares Stephen Boyd and Lieven Vandenberghe Cambridge University Press, vector spaces, linear maps, determinants, and eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
Another standard is book’s audience: sophomores or juniors, usually with a background of at least one semester of calculus.
Linear Equations INTRODUCTION A fundamental problem that surfaces in all mathematical sciences is that of analyzing and solving m algebraic equations in n unknowns. The study of a system of simultaneous linear equations is in a natural and indivisible alliance with the study of the rectangular array of numbers defined by the coefficients File Size: 5MB.
$\begingroup$ My favourite linear algebra book is Matrix Analysis by Horn and Johnson. It's not suitable for a first look at the topic though. You might also consider this and this.

'Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra fills a very important role that has been sorely missed so far in the plethora of other textbooks on the topic, which are filled with discussions of nullspaces, rank, complex eigenvalues and other concepts, and by way of 'examples', typically show toy problems.
Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra. This book is meant to provide an introduction to vectors, matrices, and least squares methods, basic topics in applied linear algebra. Part of the Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics book series and how the tools of linear algebra can be used across modern applied mathematics.
Providing an extensive treatment of essential topics such as Gaussian elimination, inner products and norms, and eigenvalues and singular values, this text can be used for an indepth first course, or. Matrix Analysis and Applied Linear Algebra is an honest math text that circumvents the traditional definitiontheoremproof format that has bored students in the past.
Meyer uses a fresh approach 5/5(1). Applied Linear Algebra and Matrix Analysis By Thomas S. Shores This book is designed for an introductory course in matrix and linear algebra; offering a fresh approach to those topics by providing a balanced blend of all three of the basic components of linear algebra: applications, theory, and computation, which gives students the tools they need as well as the motivation to acquire.
This book avoids the traditional definitiontheoremproof format; instead a fresh approach introduces a variety of problems and examples all in a clear and informal style. The indepth focus on applications separates this book from others, and helps students to see how linear algebra can be applied /5.
This book is not just another Linear Algebra book. It's a must for students, teachers, and researchers, both in mathematics and engineering fields. Unlike most of the linear algebra text books or reference style books, this book is enjoyable to read and easy to use as a quick reference/5(29).
This groundbreaking textbook combines straightforward explanations with a wealth of practical examples to offer an innovative approach to teaching linear algebra.
Requiring no prior knowledge of the subject, it covers the aspects of linear algebra vectors, matrices, and least squares that are needed for engineering applications, discussing examples across data science, machine learning and.
