This is one of the best math books I have ever read. I had to learn linear algebra for my graduate research and this book was invaluable. I just wish they wrote a differential equations book as well.

This seems to be the standard choice for honors undergraduate courses in the US these days. It is more challenging than the usual computational type introductions to linear algebra.

If you want something more applied and less theoretical than the above three books, this is the best linear algebra textbook for you. Pros: Great for self-study. If I were ever to teach the course again, I would choose Messer’s Linear Algebra solely because chapter one starts with vector spaces and linear transformations.

Every other LA book I know of pushes this abstract part of LA way back behind a bunch of mind-numbing calculation techniques. "Numerical Linear Algebra" by Trefethen and Bau is IMO the single best book to start learning from. It is lucidly written, concise and relatively inexpensive.
